Meet the team
Frances Taylor

I'm based in Otley, West Yorkshire, where I run my mosaic business, Mosaic Mania. I've been making mosaics for about 30 years and doing it professionally for more than 20 years.
There's nothing I love more than sitting in my garden studio mosaicking. I work a lot with stained glass and also vitreous and sintered glass tiles and I make a lot of mosaics for outdoor use.
I teach courses, I run community projects and projects in schools, I make commissions and I exhibit.

I run MoonChild Mosaics, from my home in Cross Hills, a small village nestled on the West and North Yorkshire border, about four miles from Skipton. I have been making mosaics for more than 10 years, working from my home studio where I create artwork from stained glass, ceramic and glass tiles and vintage china. I take part in joint and solo exhibitions, undertake commissions, run small intimate courses from my studio and lead larger workshops for the WI and other community groups further afield.
I joined the British Association for Modern Mosaic in February 2019 and took on the role of BAMM North Administrator in November 2020 and Treasurer in May 2022.

Lisa-marie Newman

I like to explore all sorts of mosaic styles and materials. I run workshops from my home studio near York, and teach classes in different creative areas, in different venues. I exhibit regularly and create various commissions and community projects.
I have been a member of BAMM (British Association for Modern Mosaic) for 10 years and Coordinator of BAMM North for 3 years.
I'm Lisa-marie from Creative Avenue, York. I started my career as an Art Teacher 25+ years ago and have been creating mosaics for about 15 years. For me, mosaic making satisfies my love of colour and my enjoyment of collecting and sorting bits 'n' pieces! I find it immensely relaxing and engaging to piece together an artwork out of shiny, colourful tiles or interesting found objects.

What's in a name?
You may be wondering why we've called ourselves North Star Mosaics. We initially came up with this name because we are three southerners, who have lived in Yorkshire for many years, and we wanted to reflect our adopted home in our name. The North Star was, and still is, used to navigate and it is a good indicator of true north on the compass.
The North Star is also known as the Pole Star and Polaris. It is readily visible to the naked eye and is the brightest star in the constellation. It appears to be one body but is in fact made up of three separate stars, gravitationally bound together, orbiting each other closely…..
Most importantly, stars are shiny, mysterious and fascinating, you can lose yourself gazing at them, and that often seems to go for mosaics too!
